ORIF (plate/screw fixation)

Open reduction internal fixation (ORIF) is a surgical procedure used in the treatment of elbow fractures. In severe fractures that require surgery, the broken pieces of bone are placed back together and held in place with a plate and screw construct. This holds the fracture secure until the bone ends heal back together. If the broken pieces of bone irreparable, a partial or total joint replacement may be necessary to allow function of the elbow.
